iPhone 4 Conference: Free Cases/Return iPhone

Steve has announced that Apple will be giving away free cases (not necessarily Bumpers, as Apple can't make enough) to help solve the antenna issue that seems to be affecting only a very small percentage of people ( about .5%)

iPhone 4.0.1, iPad 3.2.1 Firmware Released

After yesterdays private release of iOS 4.1 to Apple Developers, Apple has now released iOS 4.0.1 to the general public.

The 4.0.1 update is for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4. This update includes the new, improved formula for calculating signal strength, though no real change has been observed.


A 3.2.1 update for iPad has also be released fixing Wi-Fi issues among other things:

Fixed an issue that could prevent copy and paste of single-page PDF attachments in Mail
Addressed an issue that could cause video playback to freeze
Improved reliability of video-out when using iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter
Added Bing as an option for Safari's search field

Jailbreakers beware, don't update your device until an official jailbreak is out.

iPhone 4 Press Conference this Friday

Engadget, among others, are reporting that Apple will be holding a press conference to talk about  none other than the iPhone 4s antenna issues.

Apple on Wednesday invited select press to a special press conference to be held this Friday in California. Apple would only say that the press conference would be regarding the iPhone 4. No other information was available when I spoke with them tonight.

The conference will be held this Friday July 16th, 2010, 10AM PT.

iOS 4.1 Beta Released for Developers

The long-awaited update to iOS 4.0 is showing signs that it will soon be released to the public. iOS 4.1 is now available for Registered Developers to download in the Apple Developer Center

The update has been confirmed to fix the reception problems commonly found with the iPhone 4 (and some older devices) when held with a death grip.

The change will adopt a recently recommended formula from AT&T that will more accurately display actual signal strength at any given time. The update will also increase the size of the smaller bars (1, 2, and 3) to make them easier to see.

Though Apple claims that this update should solve reception issues, many are claiming that the issues are much larger than just software - they could be a result of the new antenna design.

If you are jailbroken on iOS 4.0, don't update to 4.1 until an official jailbreak is released.

Update: MobileCrunch has tested the new iOS 4.1 and it in-fact does not fix the iPhone 4's reception issues.

EightOS Theme

First, graphically by a Rainmeter UI called Omnimous. I have mainly taken the look of this UI as an influence (yes it is a lot like Windows 7 Mobile) as it is simple, functional and looks amazing!
Second, Navigationally (and idealistically) by K.Nitsua & Zaussers Inspired OS which unless you have been living under a mountain is one of the most amazingly different OS changes to the iPhone I have ever seen. How to Install this Theme

1. Make sure you are jailbroken. (How do I do that?) And that you are on or at an above firmware of 3.0. (How do I check?)
2. Make sure you have downloaded Winterboard, Iconoclasm, Categories, and 5IconDock.
3. Download the theme: Default Blue, Deep Blue, Green Tonic, Traffic Red, Neon Pink, xSURPx Red.
4. Decompress the theme, place the folders (the folder name should end with .theme) into /private/var/stash/Themes.xxxxxx/
   
5. Open Winterboard, drag the theme to the very top and tap on it to give it a check mark.
6. Press your home button and let your device respring.

Comex, the creator of the Spirit jailbreak, has released more details on his port for Flash 10.1 to iPhones and iPads (and possibly iPod touches).

The name for this Flash port has been called 'Frash'.

The description for the newest YouTube video reads:

Frash is a port of the Adobe Flash runtime for Android to the iPhone, using a compatibility layer. Frash can currently run most Flash programs natively in the MobileSafari browser. Frash currently only runs on the iPad, but support for other devices (3GS+ only due to technical restrictions) is planned, as well as support for iOS 4.

Jailbroken iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 on iOS 4.0 can now be unlocked using The Dev-Team's ultrasn0w version 0.93. Ultrasn0w allows your iPhone to be used on any GSM carrier (like T-Mobile).

Ultrasn0w is compatible with basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, and 05.13.04.

1. Make sure your iPhone is jailbroken and on frimware 4.0. (How do I do that?) Then connect to a Wi-Fi network and open Cydia.

2. Tap on the Manage tab.

3. Tap on Sources.

4. Tap on Edit, then Add.

5. Type in http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com. Then, tap Add Source and wait for the source to be added.

6. Now tap on the Search tab and type in ultrasn0w, tap on it, tap Install, then Confirm.

7. Wait for ultrasn0w to be installed. Once it's done, press the Reboot Device button.

8. Once it's done, you device will be unlocked and ready for use on carriers like T-Mobile.
