Today iOS 4 was released and soon after the iPhone Dev Team released an unlock for iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS (and possibly iPhone 4).
This unlock supports all basbands 04.26.08 thru 05.13.04, which means all basebands released firmware 3.0 thru 4.0. Though the unlock can only be installed though a jailbreak and an iOS 4.0 jailbreak is yet to be released.
How to Unlock
Open Cydia, tap on the Manage tab, Sources, Edit, and Add.
Tomorrow, June 21, 2010, Apple is releasing iOS 4. The new firmware has over 100 new updates including multitasking, folders (similar to Categories for jailbroken users), better mail, and iBook.
Unlike previous firmware updates, this update is completely free to all iDevice users who have one of the devices that are supported by the update. The update will support: iPod touch 2nd Generation, iPod touch 3rd Generation, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4.
Remember if you are currently jailbroken or on an unlocked iPhone, do not update to iOS 4 until a new QuickPWN, Redsn0w or Blackra1n is released. This should be a small wait time (a few days) as the jailbreak developers have already gotten their hands on iOS 4.
From the creator of Infiniboad, comes Infinidock. This tweak allows you to place up to ten icons in your dock and scroll through them like normal springboard pages. Infinidock is available on the BigBoss repository for $1.99.
Check out the video below for the full effect of what Infinidock will do to your device.
MacRumors is reporting that the upcoming iPhone 4 will have an immense upgrade to its RAM memory.
At WWDC 2010, Apple was quick to announce that the iPhone 4 would contain the same A4 chip, clocked at 1GhZ that the iPad has but Apple did not announce any real details about what the new iPhone hardware would contain over the other iDevices.
It is rumored that the new iPhone will have double the memory of the iPad and it's predecessor, the iPhone 3GS (which both have 256MB). The rumor is that the iPhone 4 will have 512MB of RAM.
This upgrade would put the iPhone up-to-speed with other new smartphones like the HTC EVO, which has 512MB of RAM, a 1GhZ clocked processor, and front facing camera.
To put it into perspective with other iDevices and the Mac Mini, a fully operational computer, check out this graphic:
The image above showed up in one of the WWDC sessions. Session 147, Advanced Performance Optimization on iPhone OS, pt 2 can be found in iTunes and is available for download by registers Apple developers.
This RAM upgrade to the iPhone 4 would explain why only the iPhone 4, and not the iPhone 3GS or the iPad, would be able to use iMovie video editing
HomeHD is a completely new way to give your jailbroken device a full theming upgrade. HomeHD, previously known as iHome, was created by Lauro. The theme comes in a Lite (an easy to apply, but less modified theme) and Full (harder to apply, but fully customized) versions.
Make sure you have downloaded Winterboard, iHome 2v, iBlankBlankNull: Source, Categories, Five Column SpringBoard, Five Icon Dock, LiveClock, WeatherIcon, Flip MobileMusicPlayer, SpringJumps, SpringBack, and SwapMode from Cydia.
The Dev Team has released the redsn0w beta jailbreak for all iPhone 3Gs and iPod touch 2Gs on the firmware 4.0GM.
This jailbreak will, by default turn on multitasking and homescreen wallpapers which is not normally allowed on these two devices by Apple.
If you are using a carrier unlock, do not upgrade to 4.0GM firmware until the official 4.0, and ultrasn0w unlock, are released as it will update your baseband as well as not allowing you to hacktivate your device. If you've managed to keep the old 04.26.08 baseband on iOS 4.0GM, the Dev Team recently released an ultrasn0w unlock, see more details on it here.
The Dev Team has released the ultrasn0w unlock for the 04.26.08 iPhone baseband.
This is not for the newest baseband, 5.12. The Dev Team is also stressing that this is only for iOS4, not for earlier 3.0+ firmware versions. The Dev Team has stated that new baseband unlocks, for newer basebands, will not be supported until the release of iOS4.
To install ultrasn0w, add http://ios4.ultrasn0w.org to your sources list in Cydia and search and install ultrasn0w.
The creator of the latest jailbreak, Comex, hasn't only been working on his Spirit jailbreak. A tweet from Comex shows a real ported version of Adobe Flash, no limitations, no external servers, no weird conversions. The video tweeted by him demos this amazing port which he states is still in its primary stages.
Comex's Flash Player is very different from the iMobileCinema plug-in for Safari (which only works for some video portals) and CloudBrowse (which transfers data from an external server to your device, a slow process). This Flash Player doesn't seem to use any of the work-arounds that previous 'Flash Players' used. Comex seems to be making groundbreaking improvement for the jailbreaking community!
At WWDC 2010, Apple announced that the popular Mac-based video editing software, iMovie would be coming to the iPhone 4. Apple announced that the app would be sold separately on the App Store for $4.99 and would feature editing capabilities superior to the trimming abilities found on the iPhone 3GS.
Now, new information has emerged about iMovie: iPhone 3GS will not support the iMovie app as it does not have a processor with the ability to handle the movie rendering. Also, movies fully rendered on the iPhone 4 will be imported into iTunes but unfinished editing sequences will not be able to be transfered on to a Mac to be fully edited.
The Apple website now has posted the 2010 Worldwide Developers Conference presentation by Steve Jobs. The video is available in low, medium, and high quality. The presentation is 1 hour and 52 minutes.
Though there were a few network glitches, and Steve had to ask the audience to turn off their Wi-Fi devices, the WWDC presentation went off with out a hitch. The The World Wide Developers Conference 2010 has come to an end, revealing the newest addition to the Apple family, the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 contains over 100 new features though Steve only had time of show off a few. Here's what you might have missed about the new iPhone.
Quick facts:
New volume buttons
Tougher glass screen
LED flash
24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS, 9.3 mm
7 hours talk time
10 hours of video playback
40 hours of audio playback
300 hours of standby
The iPhone 4 comes with a modest upgrade to its 3-megapixel camera. Though, as described by Steve Jobs, the quality of the camera has greatly improved than just two megapixels. The backside camera also has an LED flash that lights up low-light environments and also features a backside illumination sensor captures. The new iPhone also has a front-facing camera for Facetime (see below).
The iPhone 4 records 720p HD video at 30 frames per second. In low-light conditions, the LED light stays fully light up to improve video recording. It was also announced that iMovie for iPhone would be released soon. It's unclear if it will also be available for the iPhone 3GS. iMovie will allow for full editing of all videos recorded. Complete with transitions, effects, and titles. iMovie will be available in the App Store for $4.99.
Quite possibly the greatest physical improvement given to the iPhone 4 is the high-resolution. All current iPhones and iPod touches have a 480 x 320 screen resolution, the iPhone 4 has a 960 x 640 resolution! The screen is rated at 326 pixels per inch. Meaning the iPhone 4 has the highest resolution of any phone created up to this point. Which is claimed by Apple to be more than what the human eye can distinguish from.
iPhone 4 allows for a video chat system called FaceTime. The system requires no setup or additional apps to download. This system only works from one iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4. Another restriction to FaceTime is it only works over Wi-Fi, atleast until AT&T can work out a deal (or hackers can get their hands on the software).
iOS 4 (the new name given to Apple mobile Operating Systems) along with the iPhone 4 has multitasking support that promises not to slow down the app running in the foreground and also won't excessively drain the battery.
Gyroscope The iPhone now features a gyroscope to record movements of the device in true space, not only movement on the actual device - like the accelerometer on older devices does.
With the release of Adobe's Flash CS5 comes the ability to compile iPhone apps inside of Flash and then export them into .IPA files with the ability to distribute them into the App Store or into Cydia. Weather you don't want to pay Apple's $100 registration fee or you don't have a Mac, this guide will show how you can create your own iPhone app and be able to distribute them on to other devices.
2. Click on File then click on New. Select the option for iPhone OS and click OK.
3. Now there should be a blank space for you to make your flash app. But before you can do this, you must sign your app.
4. If you've signed up with Apple as a developer and payed the $100 sign up fee, you can download your own application signs at the Apple Developer site.
If you are not an official Apple developer, you will not be able to send apps to the App Store, but you can still send them to Cydia. If you are not an Apple developer, download this p12 certificate and unzip it.
5. Now in Flash CS5, click on File, iPhone OS Settings, and Deployment. For the Certificate box, browse for the p12.p12 file. Enter 1234 for the password and browse for the mobileprovision.mobileprovision for the Provisioning File.
<div class=">
6. Select Deployment - Apple App Store under iPhone deployment type.
7. Click OK. Now start developing your iPhone app in flash like any other game. Beginner flash developers may want to watch this video:
Once you're done creating your app, go once again to File, iPhone OS Settings, and Deployment. Then click on Publish at the bottom. This process will take a few moments. Flash CS5 will create an .IPA file of your application which will show up in the default location of My Documents.
9. Now if you had a legitimate Certificate from Step 4, you can submit your app to Apple for reviewing.
If you downloaded the Certificate from Step 4, go into Cydia (you must have a jailbroken device, find out how to jailbreak here). Tap on Manage, Sources, Edit, Add. Type in http://cydia.hackulo.us.
10. Go into the Search in Cydia. Type in AppSync for the current OS on your device. Install it.
11. Now drop the .IPA file from your My Documents folder into iTunes. Click the Sync button and let iTunes put the app onto your device.
12. Test out your app, if everything is working correctly, using WinSCP (Windows) or Cyberduck (Mac) go into the /Applications/ folder on your device and find the folder of your app. Copy that folder onto your desktop, zip it up, and send it to a repository like ModMyi or BigBoss to host it so others may download it.
The Lucid theme comes with large clear icons that entirely cover your springboard. These icons work well with wallpaper-focused themes. This theme includes sliders, badges, battery, lock background, and wallpapers to match.
Make sure you have downloaded Winterboard from Cydia.
In Cydia, go to the Search tab and type Lucid. Install the Theme
Open the Winterboard app on your homescreen, tap on Lucid to add a check mark next to it Then press your home button. Wait until your device is done respringing and Lucid will be applied onto your device.
The Apple website has a new page showcasing the "open, reliable, highly secure, and efficient" ways of HTML5. The site also has seven demos that are only compatible with Apple's Safari browser.
These demos effectively show the capabilities of HTML5 either on your computer, iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
360 - A Javascript mobile-compatible version of the iPod touch 360 spin
VR - A 3D exploration of the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue using hardware acceleration
Obviously, Apple is moving forward for their destruction of Adobe's flash, hoping to start a new era of browser-based media enhancements without the use of browser plugins.
TextNow allows you to send and receive text and picture messages (SMS) from either iPhone or iPod touch for only the price of the app. There is no monthly fee or extra charges. TextNow can be downloaded here. Video
